Constantly working to improve your digital marketing strategy is just part of business. You don’t want to miss out on great ideas, strategies, or options because you decided your strategy was good enough. Even if you feel you have a pretty solid digital marketing strategy, there may be room for improvement. Here are 4 ways you may be able to improve your current digital marketing efforts.
1. Start over. If you have not changed your digital marketing plan in the last 18 months, you are behind the times in a major way. Digital marketing evolves so quickly that you should have carry the same plan from year to year and hope for the best. You need to do some research into what you are currently doing and what you should be doing to be more effective.
2. Get real. It is all too easy to take a clinical approach to digital marketing. You have your lists of tasks that need to be done each day, and you do them. However, readers and customers go to your website, blog, and social media to find great information and get to know you and your company better. Write about your business like you are speaking to a friend over a cup of coffee.
3. Watch your analytics. You need to know what works and what doesn’t or there is no way you’ll be able to make positive changes. You need to know where your traffic is coming from and understand the quality of that traffic. For example, you may get a large following from Facebook, but they are not paying customers. Contrary to this, traffic coming from your email marketing campaign may be smaller but they spend money. With this information, you can focus more time and resources on building your email list with more paying customers instead of getting likes on Facebook.
4. Become or hire a content curator. Posting all your own, original content may seem like fun, but in reality, it is highly time-consumer, which can be overwhelming when you are also trying to run a business. Content curation is a mix of original and shared content. For example, you can include videos and images from other websites with proper attribution. You can write articles like the top 5 websites for pet care. Then instead of writing about pet care, you write a few sentences about 5 different websites and provide links to those websites. Content curation may take a little while to get the hang of, but it is amazingly efficient once the ball gets rolling.
