Las Vegas’ Sahara Hotel and Casino Closes It’s Doors Forever
The legendary Sahara Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has officially ended it’s 59 year run, checking out it’s last guests, paying out it’s final jackpot and closing the doors for good.
As one of the strip’s original mega-resorts, The Sahara was a favorite haunt of Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack, along with Elvis Presley, Grace Kelly and Mae West . It also boasted some of the hottest acts on the strip including Don Rickles, Johnny Carson, Dean Martin and Tina Turner. In 1964, the hotel and casino was responsible for bringing The Beatles to town, and letting the pop group stay in their 23rd floor suite.

Despite it’s rich history, The Sahara was not able to compete with larger, more upscale resorts that have emerged over the past six decades. It’s owners, SBE Entertainment, decided to put an end to an era by closing The Sahara forever Monday afternoon. Visitors took their last stroll through the casino, picking up souvenirs at the near-empty gift shop and saving chips for special mementos.
It is not known what SBE Entertainment will do with the site.
